Jennifer Garner recently got candid about her children "questioning huge things," which included "their identity."
The actress opened up to A Fresh Take two years after her child Fin's name change, which they announced on April 6, 2024 during the funeral service for Jennifer's dad William, at the Christ Church United Methodist.
The 13 Going on 30 star shares three children, including Violet, born in 2005, Fin, born in 2009, and Samuel, born in 2012, with her ex-husband Ben Affleck.
© FilmMagicJennifer revealed just how much she enjoys this era in her children's lives, expressing: "Oh my gosh, I love, love, love having teenagers and young adults. You look up one day and suddenly your kids are in charge of what you know about them."
She continued: "Look—you may be lucky and your kid tells you everything—you don't know what kind of communicator you're going to get. In a family, every child is different, obviously."
The mother-of-three explained her favorite thing about witnessing her children's growth right before her eyes.
The star continued: "But when they're big, if one of my kids feels chatty and we have time and space alone, I can learn the coolest things, like that they're thinking about a whole different career path than you thought before, that they're questioning huge things about the world or about their identity...it's just the coolest to watch them figure it out."
© FacebookThe actress emphasized that with age comes more independence and autonomy over their own lives and their own decisions, and Jennifer is intrigued by the choices they make, including which college classes to sign up for, and what hobbies they'll participate in.
She expressed: "They just knock your socks off with how independent they are…Kids are changing in front of your eyes, trying different things to see what feels right…There is nothing more fun than getting to know your children on their own terms."
Although Jennifer is enjoying this phase, it didn't arrive effortlessly, as she recalled: "Every kid has a year where they're crunchy with you. I recognize it, I acknowledge it, I know it, but I'm always happy when it's done."
