Nicole Kidman just proved when it comes to her bangs, there are no rules. The actress debuted a maxi fringe as she graced the Chanel spring/summer 2027 show during Paris Fashion Week on October 5.
Courtesy of hairstylist John Nollet, the 59-year-old's strawberry blonde locks were styled into soft, barely-there waves with texture, framed by ultra-long curtain bangs that brushed across her eyes. Nicole's bangs were cut shorter in the middle and were left longer around the cheekbones for a wispy finish. The layered cut provided extra volume to Nicole's hairstyle.
"It's all about sculpting the hair with tools to give the impression that nothing's happened. It's very French," John told ELLE of the look. "First, I blow dried with a brush. Then, I used a straightening iron to make it flat, and then I added natural movement. I also added texture using products applied with my hands."
Nicole styled her new hairdo with a gray knit peacoat dress courtesy of Chanel. The tweed garment boasted an oversized silhouette with gold button adornments and wide shoulders. She styled the look with opaque black tights and pointed-toe black pumps. The actress's makeup was left natural and radiant, courtesy of a bronze eye and a glossy lip.
Suzie McGill, hairstylist at Artistic Rainbow Room International, spoke to HELLO! about Nicole's ultra-long bangs. "Known for playing it notoriously safe with her hair over the years, this is a welcome transformation which is absolutely going to trend in the salons this autumn. Opting for extra long layers, Nicole has partnered this with an extreme maxi fringe – a fringe that features extreme length, shaped right over the eyes," she shared.
"The side panels within the fringe are seamlessly into the face framing long layers at the front. The longer layers throughout the hair teamed with this fringe create a statement look in such a simplistic way. The maxi fringe really draws you in, its heavy yet relaxed feel is a head turner and transforms the overall look, yet it still looks incredibly natural," added Suzie.
The star's soft blowout is strikingly different to her natural corkscrew curls. In an interview with Allure, the 59-year-old reflected on her relationship with her natural curls. "Why did I straighten my hair?" she admitted, after being shown a series of throwback photographs from the film Days of Thunder. "I loved my hair there. That is my natural hair. Isn’t that crazy?"
"'So for all the little girls out there – embrace the curl. Do not follow in my steps and straighten your hair," she added.
Despite years of dye work and straightening treatments, Nicole revealed that her natural ringlets are still very much intact. "I can do that to my hair still,' she said. "But it needs to be kind of humid, and I need to use the right product."
Bangs in your fifties
Caspar Finch, stylist at one of London's most stylish and exclusive salons, Hershesons Fitzrovia, previously spoke with HELLO! about how to pull off bangs in your fifties. "When opting for a fringe that you don't want to style, try experimenting with a soft fringe that's longer towards the outside of the face. This adds width to the face shape and is universally flattering for all ages," he explained.
