The post quickly attracted an outpouring of love from fans, famous friends and her children, whom she shares with her former husband, tennis legend John McEnroe.

Her daughter Emily McEnroe was among the first to respond, writing: "Beauty mom."

Her eldest son Kevin McEnroe added: "I love you, ma."

Actor Matthew Modine also sent his support, commenting: "Hello you!! big big love to you! Hope springs eternal." Another well-wisher wrote: "There is an abundance of love out here for you."

The touching response comes after a challenging few years for the former child star, who has been open about her struggles with addiction and the long road to recovery following her near-fatal medical emergency.

Her devastating health battle

In May 2020, Tatum suffered a stroke following a prescription drug overdose at her Los Angeles home.

The actress, who had been dealing with chronic pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis, was rushed to hospital after being found unconscious. She suffered cardiac arrest and seizures and spent approximately six weeks in a coma.

When she eventually regained consciousness, she was unable to walk or speak and faced an extensive rehabilitation process.

In a candid 2023 interview with Variety, Tatum opened up about the terrifying ordeal and the enormous physical and emotional challenges she faced while rebuilding her life.

Her son Kevin also revealed just how close the family had come to losing her, explaining that doctors had initially been uncertain about the extent of her recovery.

The actress has since worked to regain her independence, with her family celebrating significant milestones along the way.

A special family milestone

One particularly meaningful moment came in June 2025, when Tatum attended Kevin's wedding to actress Fern Cozine in California. The celebration marked her first trip away from home since her stroke five years earlier.

Despite having previously struggled with her speech and mobility, the proud mother stood up in front of family and friends to deliver a moving speech.

Speaking to Vogue afterwards, Kevin recalled watching his mother address the guests, including his father John and stepmother Patty Smyth.

The family occasion was especially significant given Tatum and John's turbulent history following their divorce in 1992.

Her remarkable Hollywood career

Tatum first captured the world's attention in 1973 when she starred opposite her father, Ryan O'Neal, in the critically acclaimed film Paper Moon.

Her performance earned her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at just ten years old, making her the youngest competitive Oscar winner in history, a record she still holds.

She went on to star in films including The Bad News Bears and Little Darlings, cementing her place as one of Hollywood's most recognisable young actresses.

However, her adult years were marked by personal difficulties, including addiction struggles and a complicated relationship with her father, who died in December 2023 aged 82.

Her latest post, and its simple message of hope, offers an encouraging glimpse of her life six years after the health crisis that changed everything.
