Kim Kardashian delved deep into the Bvlgari archives during her recent trip to Rome for the All's Fair Season 2 press tour. The reality star resurrected Elizabeth Taylor's iconic emerald necklace for a special photoshoot. For her 46th birthday, her stylist, Law Roach, treated her to a private viewing of the late actress's necklace at Bvlgari’s flagship store on Via Condotti.
The emerald necklace was made by Bvlgari in 1962 and is crafted from fifteen graduated Colombian emeralds and one from Zimbabwe. The jewelry boasts 60.5 carats of emeralds, with each stone surrounded by brilliant-cut diamonds and set in platinum. The necklace was gifted to Elizabeth by Richard Burton in 1964 following their romance on the set of the 1963 movie Cleopatra. Elizabeth wore it with a 23.6-carat emerald brooch that she already owned, and it was worn as an attachment to the necklace.
Following Elizabeth's death, the necklace was sold at Christie’s in 2011 for $6.13 million. The brooch and necklace were sold as separate lots.
Kim styled the emerald necklace with a simple white gown that featured a sleeveless design, a figure-hugging silhouette, and a plunging neckline. Her dark socks were slicked back into a sleek ponytail and she opted for a glowing complexion, courtesy of her natural glam look.
The SKIMS founder documented her trip to the Bvlgari store via a video shared to Instagram. "We are in Rome and I'm doing my press tour here, but they are letting us into the Bulgari store to see Elizabeth Taylor's jewelry and they're going to let me wear it and do a photoshoot," she shared.
"Are you ready for me to faint? I was lucky enough to have a phone conversation with her about this piece. When she passed away, I was brought into her home and shown her safe with all of her jewelry before they cleared it out. So I was able to see everything in her home."
Kim continued: "I am freaking out. Wow, Law really pulled some strings here. Look at this, you did it. I don't know how you did this, but this is the best birthday present ever. Now I can start my year with this Elizabeth energy. Just going with like unapologetic personality, with her giving back and her caring so much about people and that's like the energy that I want to give out this year."
"She was really the inspiration for me in finding my drive to want to help people that are in prison and prison reform work. I hope this year brings all of the things that she would fight for," she added.
