Wedding etiquette: the gifts

09 APRIL 2010

Many couples include a small card in their invitations providing details of a gift list – often a website address.

It is also a good idea to keep the list concise to ensure you get the presents you really want, and also to select items from a wide price range to accommodate guests' variable budgets.

If you would prefer vouchers from a particular store, you can write a short note to that effect in the invite. To show guests where their contribution has gone, invite them round after the wedding to see their item or send a photograph.

It is customary to thank guests for their gifts by sending handwritten notes, which are much more personal than typed letters
