Boris Johnson ahead in London mayoral polls

Conservative London mayor Boris Johnson leaves the polling station with wife Marina after casting his vote in the election for his position.

A YouGov poll put the flamboyant politician narrowly ahead of Ken Livingstone, the Labour rival he beat in 2008.

This means that his exuberant blond barnet may very likely be seen once again in City Hall.

Their rematch has been marked by Twitter spats and expletives.

Ken has fought on a platform of public transport fare cuts, and was out with a megaphone in southwest London on Wednesday and balloons promising "Ken's Fare Deal".

Boris – who introduced rental bikes and cycles everywhere including a recent engagement with the Queen – emphasised jobs and growth.
