Prince Charles loans out informal portrait of Camilla

Prince Charles loans out informal portrait of Camilla

A striking painting of the Duchess of Cornwall in casual mode is to go on display to the public for the first time this week.

The work normally hangs in Clarence House but has been lent out by Prince Charles to the annual exhibition of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, which runs at the Mall Galleries in central London from May 7 to 23.

The artist, Susan Crawford, is a long-time friend of the Duchess. "I wanted to bring out the informal side of her splendid character, her adaptability and above all her sense of humour, " she says of her work.

The Duchess sat for Susan, who specialises in portraiture and horses, a number of times last October and November.
