Margaret Thatcher's power dresses sold for £73,000

A collection of former Prime Minister Baroness Thatcher's outfits have been sold at auction for £73,000.

The suits, sold for seven times more than their pre-sale estimate, were worn in the early stages of her political career.

A fierce bidding war ensued at the Christie's sale, which saw an unidentified South Korean bidder buying six out of seven of the outfits.

However, an anonymous competitor clinched the deal for the seventh suit, which was worn on the day the Iron Lady was elected leader of the Conservative Party in 1975.

This piece also went for the most money, taking £25,000.

The suits are being sold by a private collector as part of the "London sale", a series of auctions designed to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
