Apprentice star Karren Brady becomes peer

Friday August 8, 2014

It was announced on Thursday morning that Karren Brady is to become a Conservative peer.

The Apprentice star and high-flying businesswoman has been invited by Prime Minister David Cameron to join the House of Lords as a Conservative peer, and it is believed she could be offered a ministerial position.

Karren, 45, is one of 22 new peers in the now 800-strong House of Lords. Other newly appointed peers include former Marks & Spencer boss Sir Stuart Rose and EastEnders actor Michael Cashman, a new Labour peer.

Karren has not only worked as an aide to Labour peer and Apprentice boss Sir Alan Sugar, but is also vice-chairman of West Ham football club. It is believed she has been offered at least six Conservative safe seats in the lead-up to the 2015 elections.
