Camilla sheds shoes for maiden try at bowls

Camilla sheds shoes for maiden try at bowls

The Duchess of Cornwall proved she was up for a sporting challenge when she went barefoot to throw her first ever bowl at an opening ceremony this week.

She delivered her maiden ball in front of members of Wiltshire's Box Bowls Club, before officiating over a ceremony to open the group's new £400,000 clubhouse on Monday.

"I've never bowled before, but I'll have a go," Camilla admitted before proving her seriousness by slipping off her shoes to deliver her first effort. Her first throw fell short, but her second attempt, although wide, was "jack high" - meaning it was level with the jack.

"I thought she was great. In bowling terms she bowled a good length," said club secretary Jean Collier, adding: "She was very relaxed."
