Jonathan Ross to spread wings as 'handcuffs' deal ends
Next year will mark the end of Jonathan Ross' £18 million golden handcuffs deal with the BBC.
And because of the current economic climate, the chat show host is expected to take a considerable pay cut when negotiating a new contract with the broadcasters.
It is being reported that a decrease in his salary will be balanced by the removal of an exclusivity clause, meaning Jonathan would be free to work on other channels.
A source close to the star has said he is keen to spread his wings.
"Friday Night with Jonathan Ross is one of the BBC's flagship shows…and Jonathan will stay on board to host it. But what you can expect to see is Jonathan working on other channels from late next year."
At the moment, the 48-year-old has a special agreement with the BBC which allows him to host ITV's Comedy Awards – and it was confirmed this week he will return to front the show in December.
