'Mission: Impossible' actor Peter Graves dies at 83

Star of classic TV series Mission: Impossible and Eighties comedy Airplane! Peter Graves has died in Los Angeles at the age of 83.

His publicist said the actor had a suspected heart attack outside his home after a meal with his family.

Perhaps best known for his role as agent Jim Phelps in the Mission: Impossible TV series he also played pilot Clarence Oveur in the 1980 film Airplane!.

He won a Golden Globe in 1971 for his part in the series which was later adapted to the big screen starring Tom Cruise.

The police said the star had died of "natural causes" at his home.
