January 2010 will mark the first official solo royal tour by Prince William as he sets off for New Zealand and Australia.
According to one royal official, the Queen sees this trip as an opportunity for her grandson "to learn the ropes."
The visit is to have a more relaxed, youthful tone than usual royal tours too.
In addition to performing official duties, William will attend more barbeques than formal dinners in a bid to relate more to the younger generation.
His trip is also to be chartered by social networking sites Facebook and Bebo.
With 90 per cent of New Zealanders using social networking sites, the government hopes those not able to physically attend the Prince's engagements will log on for video and photo footage so as not to miss out.
