Celebrities and fans have flooded social media sites with tributes and messages of condolence to the family and friends of IndyCar racing driver Dan Wheldon.
The 33-year-old died from injuries sustained after a crash at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Fellow racing driver Jenson Button was one of the first to comment on Twitter:
"Just woken up to the most horrific news.. Dan Wheldon RIP...
"I have so many good memories of racing with Dan in the early 90's, a true fighter. We've lost a legend in our sport but also a great guy...
"I can't begin to imagine what his family are going through and my thoughts are with them at this very difficult time.."
Formula One ace Lewis Hamilton also added his thoughts:
"This is a tragic loss at such a young age. My heart goes out to his family and friends during this extremely difficult time. #DanWheldon".
Justin Timberlake – whose clothing line sponsored Dan's car – paid tribute to the driver too.

"He was a great driver and a strong supporter of William Rast Racing. My thoughts and prayers are with his family in their time of loss."
