Date of Oscar nominations announcement moved

The Academy Awards organisers have changed the date they release nominations to January 10.

The date, five days earlier than the Academy previously announced, is mean to allow the 6,000 members to see more of the nominated films before the ceremony date.

The date is just three days ahead the second-biggest film awards, the Golden Globes.

The shift has raised suspicions that the Academy might be trying to steal the other ceremony's thunder.

The Oscars ceremony will take place February 24.
