Berkshire council has announced that it may seize the mansion given to the Duke and Duchess of York as a wedding present by the Queen reports the Daily Mail.
Sunninghill Park, a 12-bedroom 12-bathrroom residence that originally cost £5 million, could be turned into a residence for the homeless, said local officials.
They came forward with the proposal because the house has been empty for almost a decade and is desperately in need of renovation.
Following the couple's 1996 divorce, they continued to share the sprawling property for a number of years.
In 2007, Sunninghill was bought by a new owner believed to be Timur Kulibayev, the son-in-law of the Kazakhstan president.
But since making the £15 million purchase, he hasn't got round to repairing the rundown estate.
