A spokesman for Cheryl Cole has said there are "no similarities" between the singer's track Fight For This Love and Lil Star by US artist Kelis.
He was speaking out after a number of stories appeared on the web claiming the two tracks sounded the same – especially in their verse sections.
The Girls Aloud star's first solo single – which is heading for number one in the charts – was written by American Andre Merritt, who has previously worked with Rihanna.
Over 15 million watched her perform it live on the X Factor last weekend.
Kelis' self-penned effort reached number three when it was released in 2007.
