David Walliams to undergo surgery following Thames swim
David Walliams has announced that he will undergo emergency back surgery this week for an injury he sustained during his eight-day Thames swim in 2011.
The Little Britain star announced that he has cancelled all work commitments for the rest of the year while he recovers from the operation, which will repair a torn disc sustained during the charity event.
David, who has a baby son, Alfred, with his wife Lara Stone, has been forced to postpone an upcoming event in London on December 7 to promote his children's books.
He said in his statement, "Fortunately we are able to reschedule the event for March, and hopefully I will see most of you there. I wish you all a merry Christmas."
David has had an increasingly busy year, most recently filming a TV adaptation of his bestselling book, Gangsta Granny, with Robbie Williams, and starring opposite Sheridan Smith on stage in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
