Veteran Bill Gaytten replaces Galliano for Dior show

Tuesday June 28, 2011

Although rumours have been circulating about his return as head of the Christian Dior label, it seems that John Galliano has been offically replaced.

Bill Gaytten, who worked with John for 23 years, has been given the coveted position.

In the recent Paris menswear show, many felt Bill's creative direction proved his ability to fill the controversial designer's very large shoes.

The newly-promoted Englishman, who studied to be an architect, has worked with Dior for the majority of his career.

Of the promotion and Parisian show, the 51-year-old said, "It's the same job for me; I've been doing it for a long time. The menswear show was a bit different because John wasn't there. I'm dying to know what he thinks!"

While working under Galliano, the new frontman was responsible for the cutting of his ex-colleagues designs.

Bernard Arnault, the head of Dior and LVMH, is said to have chosen David for excellent tailoring talent.

Arnault, worth over £41 billion, insists that John will not be invited back to the label: "He will not be working for LVMH...[he] didn’t have the simple politeness to contact me."

The former Dior designer recently appeared in court after his February arrest. He faces over £22,000 in fines and six months in prison. The final verdict is set to be released in September.
