Sir Elton John bid farewell to life as a bachelor with a lavish "stag party" on Monday night. The pop veteran and his long-time partner David Furnish were congratulated by a roll-call of their showbiz friends when they took centre stage at the £125,000 bash in London's Soho.

TV queen Paul O'Grady, who is better-known for his alter ego Lily Savage, played MC for the evening, treating the two grooms-to-be to a night of cabaret fun. "We're going to tie them to a lamppost and cover them in shaving foam – it's an old-fashioned stag do," he joked.
Liz Hurley and her fiancé Arun Nayar were also among the famous faces who went along to the capital's Too2Much nightclub to offer their best wishes. Ozzy Osbourne and his wife Sharon were likewise in attendance, along with former Take That star Gary Barlow and movie heart-throb Orlando Bloom.
Small screen favourite Cilla Black meanwhile told reporters outside about her plans to add a touch of kitsch fun to the singer's kitchen. "They don’t want presents," she revealed. "They want donations for the various Aids charities. But I'm still going to buy them a present. I'm going to get them the tackiest toaster I can find." The couple was also honoured with a video message from former US president Bill Clinton. "If there were more people like Elton, the world would be a better place," said the politician.
Elton and David will "marry" on Wednesday afternoon in the Windsor Registry Office where Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall made their vows earlier this year. Their civil union will be followed by a star-studded party for 750 people at the musician's £12-million Berkshire estate. |
