Two years after the heartbreaking loss of her mother, brother and nephew, Jennifer Hudson has spoken about the tragedy for the first time. The singer and actress wiped away tears as she gave a TV interview to music channel VH1, telling the interviewer: "It's all a blur, it's surreal. I felt like I was outside myself."

Jennifer's 57-year-old mother Darnell Hudson Donerson, and older brother, Jason, 29, were found dead at the Oscar winner's childhood home in Chicago in October 2008. Her seven-year-old nephew Julian King was reported missing but later found dead. William Balfour - the estranged husband of Jennifer's sister Julia - was charged with murdering them. Jennifer said of the time: "For almost two weeks straight... [I was] inside one room with just family and friends coming in and out, "I prayed when I'd get up in the morning and prayed before I laid down at night."

The one thing helping Jennifer through such a tough time is her little son David, who she welcomed with her fiancé David Otunga 11 months ago. The little boy reminds her of her nephew, she says. "I want him to get the same love and and the same upbringing as my mother gave to us and that way I'll know for sure he'll be loved."
