They may be called the Golden Globes, but when it came to sartorial choices for the red-carpet Monday was certainly a night for white, as a host of stars donned the snowy hue. Other key style statements included Grecian-style sheaths and strapless affairs.
Among those favouring the white approach was Brit beauty Sienna Miller, who was radiant in a flowing Marchesa gown. Supermodel Heidi Klum echoed the trend with a flattering strapless Givenchy number, while Cameron Diaz turned heads in layered Valentino.
Another prominent colour choice was blue, with ever-elegant Helen Mirren picking up her best actress gong in a deep blue, custom-made Donna Karan frock and Dreamgirls star Jennifer Hudson turning up the heat in a figure-hugging navy satin gown. Meanwhile Angelina Jolie, the face of exclusive brand St John, chose a blue-grey strapless gown by the label for the event.
Admitting the colour was an unusual choice for her Eva Longoria matched her turquoise detailed midnight-blue Ungaro gown to the dazzling engagement ring given to her by fiancé Tony Parker.
Other famous faces went for all-out dazzle in jewel-bright hues. Reese Witherspoon turned heads in a canary yellow Nina Ricci cocktail number, while Beyonce made a characteristically dramatic statement in a shimmering gold Elie Saab gown.
And there was a little male input into the frock fest, too. Jennifer Lopez confessed that her husband's opinion on her beaded, black Marchesa gown - he "loved it" - was key to her choosing it, saying: "That's usually the deciding factor!"
