The sparkling shores and pink flamingos of sunny Miami may be set to receive a touch of Irish charm, now that actor Colin Farrell has been touted as the man to fill Don Johnson's espadrilles in a film version of Miami Vice.

According to trade paper Variety, Universal Studios is in talks with SWAT heart-throb Colin and Collateral star Jamie Foxx for a big screen rendition of the hit TV cop series. The film company is also said to be negotiating with the Eighties drama's original executive producer, Michael Mann, to write, direct and produce the action flick.

The action-packed show originally starred Don Johnson as Detective Sonny Crockett and Phillip Michael Thomas, who played sidekick Ricardo Tubbs.

One of the most iconic TV programmes of the Eighties, Miami Vice ran from 1984 until 1989, making its two leading men international stars and setting fashion trends – such as white suits and worn with brightly-coloured T-shirts – around the world as well.
