Hollywood star Angelina Jolie has been visiting the Spanish city of Barcelona in an effort to help people who have lost their homes to war and famine. The Lara Croft beauty, who was accompanied by her adopted son Maddox, journeyed to the coastal city to publicise World Refugee Day on June 20.

"My perfect world would be a world without refugees, without wars, without racism and without persecution," she said. The Oscar-winning actress, who is a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Refugee Agency, then met children from myriad cultures and countries.

Angelina's trip came as part of the Universal Forum of Cultures which is currently taking place in Barcelona. In recent years the 29-year-old has become well-known for her tireless efforts to help the planet's most desperate people. Just a few days ago she made a personal donation of $500,000 to the UN to help establish a legal resource centre for refugees in the US.

"If you have never met a refugee, you do not know what you are missing," she said. "They are some of the most amazing people you could ever meet. I continue to be in awe of their courageous spirit and their ability to go on despite the difficulties they face."
