Angelina Jolie warned against acting with Brad Pitt in By The Sea

A decade has gone by since Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt first teamed up on screen in Mr and Mrs Smith. Now they are putting the finishing touches on their second film together, By The Sea; in which they play a husband and wife struggling in their relationship. Not everyone thought the project was a good idea.

"We haven't acted together for ten years. We decided we would do it again and we did a very small drama about family, about marriage in fact," newlywed Angelina, 39, said during an interview with The Today Show. "We did a drama about a bad marriage."

She continued, "A lot of friends of ours thought it was a really… they didn't say a bad idea… but they asked us a few times if we were sure we wanted to do it."

Angelina talked about the toll the film had taken while speaking to Channel 4 News earlier this week. "It (was) uncomfortable but we've already shot it, we've survived it and we're stronger for it," she said.

"It was very tough material, so for any actors it was heavy dramatic emotional work."

Playing a couple at odds in their relationship completely contrasts Brad and Angelina's real life romance. In August, the Hollywood stars tied the knot after a decade together – and they couldn't be happier.

"It did change things," Angelina said of their nuptials – which were featured in HELLO! magazine.

"It was in just a feeling of that security and comfort that we always had, but recommitting after ten years of being together. And we were fortunate enough to be in that unusual situation where we got married with our children, and they were a part of the ceremony and they wrote some of the vows.

"So it was all of us agreeing to be together and to commit to this life together – not because we had to, not because anything was missing in our lives, but because we were absolutely sure," the mum-of-six told Today. "We felt that much of a family.  It was really lovely, it was a lovely day."
