California girl Hilary Duff is known for her long, blonde tousled locks. But the actress surprised fans by chopping off her tresses into a mid-length bob and sharing a picture of the process on Instagram on Thursday. "Morning chop.... W/ my favorite @marcusrfrancis," Hilary wrote next to the snap of hairdresser Marcus getting to work.

She later posted an 'after' photo showing off her new choppy, blunt style up close in a shot she captioned, "#selfie". Speaking to US Weekly, Marcus spoke about giving Hilary the new look. "She texted me last night and wanted to do it right away," he said. "We wanted a bigger change for summer and just to feel healthier in general. She loves it and feels like it'll be easier to style.

"She actually wanted it shorter when we first discussed the cut, but once she saw what three inches looked like, she felt the length is perfect. She loved that the hair looked and felt thicker." Meanwhile, Hilary recently revealed that she's not sure what the future holds for her and estranged husband Mike Comrie. The former Disney's Lizzie Macguire star split from the NHL star earlier this year and her former flame Aaron Carter has expressed his interest in dating her again. However Hilary is regularly seen with her spouse and admits they aren’t certain of what’s in store for the pair - who are parents to son Luca. "We're constantly seen together and people are like, 'What are they doing? Are they back together? Are they not?' We're really good friends and we have so much respect for each other and obviously Luca is our No. 1 priority," she told E! News. "I think we got to a point where we were like, we really need to honour happiness and whatever that is and however we need to sort that out or work that out, we're doing that.” While some separated families hold it together for their young members, Hilary says that she and Mike socialise because they still like each other as friends. Speaking at the iHeartRadio Awards inside the Shrine Auditorium on in Los Angeles, California on Thursday, Hilary shared that they could take it further but are seeing how it goes for now. “We love each other so much and we love spending time together,” she continued. “So when you see us out it's not just for Luca, it's because we make plans and we hang out and we don't know what our future looks like right now but we're both doing really good and just figuring out what makes us happy."
