Early Childhood

Britney Spears was born in Kentwood, Louisiana and began singing and dancing at just two, going on to perform in talent shows. At eight years old the budding popstar first auditioned for Disney's The All New Mickey Mouse Club. Despite being too young for the stint on the show, Britney got an agent and after starring in an off-Broadway production of Ruthless, joined the Disney programme two years later. Her fellow cast members included, Christina Aguilera and feature beau, Justin Timberlake.

Britney's pop career

Shortly after the show was cancelled, Britney returned home aged 15 and eventually got a record label with Jive Records. Her first track Hit Me Baby One More Time quickly went to number one on the charts and sold more than 10 million copies in the US.

The star's overnight success made her one of the most iconic pop stars of her generation and her career continued to skyrocket.

Britney's love life

After breaking up with Justin in 2002, she was linked with Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst and Irish bad boy Colin Farrell, but neither led to serious romance. On January 3, 2004, however, Britney took the world by surprise when she married childhood friend Jason Alexander in Las Vegas. But the singer later changed her mind and dismissed the wedding as a night of revelry that got out of control. The couple secured an annulment after only 55 hours. Surprisingly, that trip down the aisle wasn't the only one for the singer in 2004. In September of that year, she wed Kevin Federline, one of her tour backup dancers, in a low-key California ceremony attended only by a select group of friends and loved ones.

Their son, Sean Preston, was born on September 14th, 2005, just prior to the couple's first wedding anniversary. Hopes her second marriage would stand the test of time were dashed when she filed for divorce in November 2006, two months after the birth of their second son Jayden James. She cited "irreconcilable differences" in legal papers. Britney has since found love with her husband personal fitness trainer Sam Asghari, the pair married last year.

Britney's conservatorship

Britney's personal life hit a rocky patch in 2007 as she entered into custody proceeding with Kevin. After less than 24 hours in a rehabilitation facility in Antigua in February the troubled star shaved her head, before heading back to a different treatment centre in California.  In early 2008 her father was granted temporary conservatorship of her assets whilst the singer sought medical help.

The pop star made headlines in 2021 when her 13-year conservatorship came to an end. The termination of the agreement saw Britney's father lose control of her finances following her concerns he wasn't acting in her best interest.
