Clarence House has broken its silence over recent press reports that Camilla Parker Bowles was being sidelined from royal life. In a move that has surprised many royal watchers, communications secretary Paddy Harverson has declared that Prince Charles' long-time companion has the full support of his staff.

"We are there to offer help and support to Mrs Parker Bowles when we can," he said. "Mrs Parker Bowles is often at Clarence House. We often see her in the office and we talk frequently."

His comments come in the wake or press speculation she was being "frozen out" of public life, because of fears her relationship with the future king was harming his popularity.

It was believed that Sir Michael Peat, Prince Charles' private secretary, wanted to minimise the number of public appearances they made together. But Clarence House points out that Camilla has her own offices at the prince's official residence, complete with full-time staff. One of her aides also attends the weekly planning meeting, to coordinate their engagements.
