Prince George of Cambridge certainly had a special first Easter Sunday getting up close and personal with the wild animals at Taronga Zoo.

The eight-month-old Prince was delighted at the hill-side zoo to see a bilby named after him, in honour of his birth George sported a checked shirt, blue shorts and navy socks and shoes for his day out in sunny Sydney, while his mother Kate wore a yellow dress previously seen on her royal tour of Tuvalu in 2012.

The Duchess of Cambridge wore her long brunette hair down and accessorised her look with nude-coloured wedges while her husband Prince William wore a checked shirt and navy chinos.

After introducing George to the bilbys at the enclosure the youngster returned to the care of his nanny while William and Kate met with koalas, kangaroos and giraffes.

Before he left, however, he added yet another Australian-themed stuffed animal to his ever growing collection in the form of a toy bilby wearing a Taronga Zoo t-shirt.

George had joined his parents after they spent the morning at a church service.

In preparation for his second ever royal engagement the youngster was left in the care of his Spanish nanny Maria at Admiralty House until his parents had finished their appearance at St Andrew's Cathedral in the city.
