Alexandra was the second most popular choice with just under 18 per cent of votes. The moniker is the Queen's middle name and was a favourite choice for a girl throughout Kate's pregnancy in 2013.

While Alice has been tipped the most popular name for a baby Princess with bookmakers, it only came third in our vote closely followed by Victoria.

If born on Tuesday, the royal baby could share a birthday with their great-grandmother the Queen, but only 8.2 per cent of readers believe they should share a name too. Elizabeth was the fifth choice for a girl with our readers.

Should Kate give birth to another baby boy, James is the most popular choice with readers. It would mean that the Prince would share a name with his uncle, James Middleton, as well as Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex's seven-year-old son.

Arthur has been a front-runner with bookmakers, and it proved the second most popular choice with our readers, closely followed by Philip as the third favourite choice for a young Prince. Completing the list are Richard and Albert – with just two per cent of readers selecting the name for a future Prince.
