'I'm A Celebrity...': Australia's jungle explored

Share this:

A world away from the five star Queensland Palazzo Versace Hotel that saw the start of the Australian adventure for some of the contestants, stars now face the ordeals of the brutal jungle in I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!, located in the heart of the famous Springbrook National Park. Leaving their creature comforts behind, the pampered, paparazzied contestants, such as Helen Flanagan, David Haye and Hugo Taylor, battle it out on the Gold Coast to win the all important crown of King or Queen of the jungle. We delve into the legendary Australian setting that has played host to the ten consecutive years of gossip and scandal, fear and endurance, and a whole load of painstakingly gruesome bushtucker trials.

Bushtucker trial

Murwillumbah After spending hours and hours glued to the nail-biting episodes of I'm A Celeb..., witnessing endless gruelling tasks and hungry celebrities forced to fend for themselves, it's hard to imagine visiting the reality TV show's very real location in New South WalesAustralia. The stunning scenic landscapes of Murwillumbah, the abundance of exotic wildlife and the streaming waterfalls are somewhat foreshadowed in the global hit show and replaced by celebrities partaking in 'food' challenges. Most recently Rustic Rhymes took the challenge of swallowing a camel toe, and boxing champion David Haye struggled in the adventure course, Shaping up.Nonetheless, due to the area's natural beauty – a blend of rolling green hills and gently flowing rivers – the picturesque township of Murwillumbah, located in the centre of the breathtaking Tweed Valley, is a little piece of paradise and was identified as being one of the top ten most desirable places to live in Australia.Set within the foothills of the McPherson Mountain range within the volcanic valley, Murwillumbah's landscapes are majestic to say the very least, boasting pockets of sugar cane and banana plantations with small little villages and hobby farms.

Gold Coast, Australia

The creeks and camp areas of the reality show are all situated directly below the main suspension bridge in Murwillumbah's Springbrook National Park, so the crew – based right beside the camp – have to be extremely careful during filming not to be heard. With its close proximity to the Gold Coast's beachfront resorts, you can be a part of Murwillumbah's subtropical jungle and abundant rainfall, while also soaking up the hot sun on the pristine Paradise beach – an entirely different experience to the tears and terrors of the celebrities on the ITV show.

Gold CoastGold Coast in Queensland, Australia is the celebrity central hotspot when it comes to the rich and famous wanting to experience world-acclaimed beaches and unspoiled views Down Under, welcoming A-listers such as Whitney Houston, Pamela Anderson and Paris Hilton into its divine realms.Join the I'm A Celebrity... stars on their adventures and try bush walking in the Hinterland or take a scenic flight on a helicopter to admire a birds-eye view of the stunning coast. Though this wouldn't be the frantic trip that Mark Wright took in 2011 – we all remember when the TOWIE star faced his darkest fear and parachuted from a helicopter.  Fuel your adrenalin by scuba-diving in Moreton Bay or discover the thrill-seeking activities such as deep-sea fishing, hot-air ballooning, surfing and jet-skiing.

The Hinterland in Gold Coast often gets overlooked in the glitz of the city's bustling sea-food restaurants, designer-studded boutiques and cultural attractions. But up in the hills you can really appreciate Australia's great outdoors: experience winery trails, where you can sample homemade cheeses, fudge and local brews, while taking in the magnificent views that stretch for miles and miles.

Springbrook National Park Located in the Springbrook National Park, the rustic campsite is where lavish celebrities – such as former famous faces Janice Dickenson, Joe Swash and Mcfly's Dougie Poynter – have suffered hardship, and isolation bears witness to never-ending entertainment for viewers in the critter-infested jungle. Springbrook's forests and mountain streams offer visitors views of some of the world's most impressive landscapes, and walks across subtropical rainforest. Spectacular waterfalls such as Minyon Falls, cascades and tumbling creeks are dominant features in this World Heritage Park with impressive views over Mount Warning too.

With this year's leading celebrity contestants and the already impressive trials, tantrums and tribulations on only day four, we predict that TV this Christmas will be extremely entertaining.
