Top ten New Year's Eve city breaks

Culture is at the heart of Vienna’s New Year celebrations as the city transforms into a mixture of traditional and modern festivities. Christmas markets become New Year fairs offering a selection of scrumptious Viennese foods from pastries to traditional schnitzels. The luxurious Wiener-Rathauskeller restaurant hosts a gala dinner for a true New Year’s feast, accompanied by artistic performances and a selection of Viennese operettas.

In the old city, live music includes everything from modern DJs to the ‘Classical Area’ which includes a crash-course on waltzing. Take a spin on Vienna’s Giant Ferris Wheel whilst gazing above the city’s rooftops, or head to the Kunsthistorisches museum for its elegant, annual gala. At midnight, waltz into the New Year in front of St Stephen’s Cathedral as trumpets and bells ring out across the country. For New Year’s Day, watch the world-renowned Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra perform their annual concert on huge screens outside City Hall.
