What will Princess Eugenie wear on her wedding day? See the dresses

Princess Eugenie will be turning her attention to wedding dresses, now that her nuptials to fiancé Jack Brooksbank have been confirmed for Friday 12 October. The couple are due to marry at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, the same venue that Prince Harry and his fiancée Meghan Markle have chosen for their forthcoming May wedding.

Eugenie, 27, has eight months to find the dress of her dreams, and while she's on the hunt, we've asked some bridal experts to share their predictions for what the royal bride could wear…

The Queen's granddaughter has previously said she would steer clear of "meringue shoulders" because "that's a bit unfashionable". Ellis Bridals has predicted Eugenie will step out in an ivory dress, such as this shimmer taffeta gown, which has a sweeping ballet neck and back. "The intricate beaded embroidery on the bodice is romantic yet contemporary – a perfect choice for the Princess and no meringue shoulders in sight," they said.

Sassi Holford, whose celebrity brides include Alex Jones, Autumn Phillips, Emily MacDonagh and Helen Skelton, predicts that Eugenie will step out in a fifties-inspired dress. "Eugenie would suit the aptly named princess line gown, which will enhance her hour glass figure. She tends to embrace the clean lines of the fifties," said Sassi, sharing a sketch of her design.

Elbeth Gillis envisions the royal in an A-line dress, leaving all attention to her ball gown skirt. "Princess Eugenie wears A-line and full skirts beautifully, so I think any ball gown silhouette will look like a fairytale on her.," said Elbeth. "An ivory-toned dress will be a striking contrast with her dark hair, and of course there will be only the best silk and lace, and a rapturously long veil."

Watters Brides says: "Although Princess Eugenie is a fan of the midi and knee length dress with a modest style, we don't think she will necessarily follow suit and opt for this cut on her wedding day.

"We predict she will keep a more modest shape, by choosing a gown with sleeves and a soft A-line shape with a natural waist and luxurious soft washed silk organza fabric. We have chosen our style prediction from our royal-inspired Fall 2017 collection, Shiloh."

Bridal designer Anna Georgina, of Kobus Dippenaar fame, predicts Eugenie will opt for a high neck and long sleeves, given the unpredictable British weather in October.

"I envision Princess Eugenie in a classically demure gown, in a gown similar to what Grace Kelly wore, with a silk satin that has just a little bit of sheen to the finish. Because it's an autumn wedding, I imagine the gown will have a high lace neck and long lace sleeves, possibly with a lovely trail of pearl buttons down the back.

"Princess Eugenie is proudly British, and I'm sure her gown will showcase the work of one of Britain's best designers," she said.

Charlie Brear can see the bride in a fifties-inspired dress: "Princess Eugenie's dress will be classic with a nod to fashion; it's unlikely to be directional but it also won't be boring. She favours form-fitting and flare dresses, loves florals and embroidery and could steer towards a slightly fifties shape. It will definitely be designed with a sleeve but possibly a more open boat or off-the-shoulder neckline."
