THOUSANDS PACK HYDE PARK FOR GIANT POP CONCERT

A crowd of 100,000 people crammed into London’s Hyde Park on Sunday for a marathon open-air popfest featuring hot Latin properties Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias; boy band favourites Westlife and Blue; sexy Shakira; Pop Idol rivals Will Young and Gareth Gates; Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Atomic Kitten, among others.

The annual all-day Party In The Park, which raises money for The Prince’s Trust, drew several famous faces in the audience as well, with the charity's founder Prince Charles himself chatting to World Heavyweight Champion Lennox Lewis about his victory over Mike Tyson, and tennis babe Anna Kournikova spotted admiring Enrique Iglesias’ performance.

With so many fans flooding into the central London area for the event, which is hosted by 95.8 Capital FM Radio and is one of the biggest pop concerts in Europe, organisers threw up five miles of barriers to contain the influx and urged people to leave their cars at home and use public transport.

Proceeds from the concert, which last year topped £1 million, will go towards helping disadvantaged young people across the UK. The Prince’s Trust will be using the money to provide mentors for young offenders, set up special support clubs for youngsters who have difficulties at school, and send young people on personal development courses.

Tickets for this year’s concert, the fifth edition of Party In The Park, sold out in a record four hours and 49 minutes.
