The popular British TV presenter Caron Keating has died after a long battle with breast cancer. The 42-year-old celebrity, who rose to fame on the children's series Blue Peter, passed away at her mother's home on Tuesday night.

Caron, the daughter of Gloria Hunniford, was a much-loved figure in the British media. Asides from her work on Blue Peter, the mother-of-two also worked on ITV's This Morning programme.

A statement released by her family said the blonde celebrity was surrounded by her loved-ones when the final moment came.

"At 6.15pm last night broadcaster Caron Keating sadly lost her seven-year battle against cancer, a battle that she fought with enormous courage, tenacity and optimism," it said. "She passed away at her mother's home in Sevenoaks, in Kent, surrounded by her family."

"Caron had a great sense of family and relished being a mother and wife. It goes without saying that she will leave an unfilled void in the family circle, but she leaves a legacy of wonderful memories and love, which will stay with us all our lives."
