Some of the showbiz industry's hottest female talents descended on the Austrian capital of Vienna over the weekend in an effort to fight the Aids pandemic. Dedicated charity campaigner and all-round Tinseltown bombshell Sharon Stone led the charge as thousands of lavishly attired revellers gathered for the city's spectacular Life Ball.

The Basic Instinct star, appearing in her role as honorary president of the American Foundation for Aids Research, looked characteristically glam with her blonde tresses tied back and a floor-length white gown making the most of her curves.

"I am sure that most of you are aware that 40 million people are living with Aids," the actress told a crowd of several thousand who had gathered in front of the town hall. "We cannot turn away and imagine that Aids will end itself. We have one child dying every minute from Aids. We have one person dying every second from Aids. I am walking with you and I am fighting for your life."

Sharon was by no means the only A-list stunner turning heads, though, as British beauty Naomi Campbell put in an appearance on the catwalk in a fashion show organised to kick off the celebrations. And American chanteuse Anastacia likewise joined in the fun, sashaying down the runway in some funky denims by Italian firm Diesel. French screen siren Catherine Deneuve meanwhile presented £70,000 to the humanitarian organisation Medecins Sans Frontieres, which has been working on new ways to diagnose HIV-positive babies.
