He then congratulated George on his engagement to human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin, which has been confirmed by the actor's mother and father as well as Amal's employer, London's Doughty Street Chambers. George, 52, was made a messenger of peace in 2008 after his work to raise awareness about the violence in the Darfur conflict, and his advocacy for aid for the millions of people displaced by the fighting there. In the role, he travelled to the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as South Sudan. And Mr Dujarric said that UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon hoped the actor would be involved with the organisation again at some point in the future.
