Jennifer Lopez has her eye on one of Hollywood's hottest starlets to play her on screen - Selena Gomez. The Jenny from the Block singer has apparently told US media that she thinks the 21-year-old is "a cutie". Fittingly, one of JLo's earliest film roles was aptly in Selena, a biopic about the famous Latin singer, whom the young actress is named after.

Selena Quintanilla-Perez was the queen of Tejano music - Latin Texan music - in the Nineties. She was seen as the Mexican equivalent of Madonna, but her life was tragically cut short when she was murdered by a fan in 1995. Her namesake is also from Texas and was born to a 16-year-old single mother in 1992. Like Jennifer, whose relationships, figure and fortune, are constantly reported, the fresh-faced former Disney star knows what it's like to attract controversy. Her four-year on-off relationship with Justin Bieber is rarely out of the headlines and earlier this year Selena voluntarily spent time in rehab.

Her representatives refused to specify the reasons for her treatment at the Dawn at the Meadows facility in Arizona, beyond denying that it was for substance abuse. However, what JLo will have seen in her is that Selena is also a tireless worker with lots of ambition. The brunette is an all-round entertainer, who made her name in teenage fare on TV such as Wizards of Waverly Place and Hannah Montana, before having several hit records. "The only way to get better is to just keep doing it," Selena has said. "That's why I want to take a break (from music) … I want to really be the best (actress) I can be."
