Matt Bellamy has broken his silence on his recent split from Kate Hudson. The Muse frontman took to Twitter to thank his fans for their support following the announcement that he and Kate had called time on their four year relationship, and said it was "for the best". "Love all of you guys! We're both very happy, it's for the best. Thanks for your kind words. Now about that new album…" he wrote.

Meanwhile Kate was spotted out without her engagement ring as she enjoyed a night out at a friends' house in Los Angleles. The 35-year-old was pictured dressed down and make-up free as she headed out for an evening with friends.

Matt and Kate, who have a three-year-old son Bingham Hawn Bellamy together, surprised fans when they confirmed their split on Monday. "Kate and Matt have been separated for some time now," a rep confirmed. "Despite this, they remain very close friends and committed co-parents."

The actress and rocker Matt were seen together as recently as 21 November, at Kate's mother Goldie Hawn's inaugural 'Love in for Kids' gala in Beverly Hills, California. The couple showed no sign of strain on their relationship as they smiled and posed together for photos.

Matt and Kate had been engaged since April 2011, with Kate saying she didn't mind the long engagement as her parents Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell had been happily unmarried for 31 years.

Speaking to Women's Health for its October issue, the actress said: "My parents aren't married, and one of the reasons why they never got married is because they had been married before and they liked it the way it was.

They didn't feel like they needed a piece of paper to be committed. "So for me, I know that marriage is not a golden ticket." Kate was previously married to Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson for six years, and the couple had ten-year-old son Ryder together.
