Miley Cyrus has said she is happy to be single following her split from Patrick Schwarzenegger. The singer, who had been dating the 21-year-old for five months, revealed that she is coping just fine after the break-up.

"It has a lot to do with being a feminist, but I'm finally okay with being alone," Miley told Time magazine. "I think that's something we have to talk about more: that you can be alone."

She continued: "There are times in my life where I've had boyfriends or girlfriends. And there are times where I just love being with myself and don't want to give part of myself away to someone else.

"I think that's a new freedom for women, especially. I don't know that my mother would have been able to be 22 and secure in being alone. But my future doesn't rely on having a partner."

Miley and Patrick ended their romance in April, with a source telling People magazine: "It's not a break. It's done.

"They're just in two different places in their lives – he's in college and she's focused on her music and career."

Following the split Miley has reportedly sought comfort from ex Liam Hemsworth. The starlet reportedly had dinner with her former fiancé at Soho House in West Hollywood in April.

"Miley had been talking and texting with Liam for months and months," a source told Hollywood Life. "It was a friendship that at times got a little flirty. She never told Patrick about it as she knew how jealous of Liam he was."

The source added that Liam was her "first serious love". The former couple met on the set of The Last Song in 2009. They announced their engagement in 2012 only to call it off the following year.

However, Liam recently spoke of his enduring affection for his former fiancée. He stated that they would "always be best friends" and they had an "instantaneous and powerful connection".
