Oscar-winning actress Brie confirmed her engagement to musician Alex Greenwald in May, after sparking rumours of a union by flashing her sparkler during an appearance on SNL. Although famously private about her love life, Brie has namechecked Alex in acceptance speeches in the past. At the 2016 SAG Awards, she said: "My wonderful boyfriend, Alex – I love you so much."

It was love at first sight for Dragon's Den star Duncan, 67, and 36-year-old Nigora Whitehorn – during his trip to the dentist! Duncan was having some dental work done at a Harley Street clinic where Nigora was working as a receptionist, and he later said: "When I went home I couldn't stop thinking about her, I felt obsessed! Real Madrid footballer Gareth Bale popped the question to his childhood sweetheart Emma Rhys-Jones in July, and they're expected to tie the knot in 2017. The sportsman got down on one knee in front of their friends and family during his 27th birthday celebrations, and Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsay and wife Colleen are among those expected to attend the nuptials.

Olympian Tom and screenwriter Dustin Lance-Black announced their engagement in October 2015, with a traditional ad in The Times. Tom later opened up about their wedding plans, admitting he and Dustin are planning a British ceremony.
