Britney Spears has revealed that she very nearly drowned while on holiday in Hawaii earlier this month. The mum-of-two opened up about the incident during an interview with Radio 1's Scott Mills on Wednesday, and revealed that she frantically fought with giant waves for five minutes, while her security team were nowhere to be seen.

"I went out and I thought it was like a wave pool, and I was like, 'This is so nice and refreshing and just beautiful'," Britney, 34, said. "But the thing I didn't think about is when you come back, the waves really come in hard.

"I got sucked under for like five minutes. I almost drowned. And I'm like, 'Where is my security? They are just going to let me die here.' And then I came in again and another waves took me under."

During the interview, Britney - whose long-awaited ninth album, Glory, is set for release on Friday - opened up about a range of topics, from working with 'divas' in the music industry, to meeting Justin Bieber, and performing at the Super Bowl. She also revealed the one piece of advice she'd give her younger self.

"Never get married, number one," she said. "That's probably the best advice I could give myself."

Britney was married to Jason Alexander for just 55 hours back in 20004, before their marriage was annulled, and later that same year she tied the knot with Kevin Federline, the father of her two sons, Jayden and Sean. Britney split from Kevin in November 2006, and their divorce was finalised in July 2007.

The star also spoke about her professional life, and said she would consider headlining the Super Bowl next year – but not on her own. "I would have to have a little support group, another artist, of course," she said. "I don't think you would ever do the Super Bowl alone. That would be kind of scary!"

But, she said, many artists are very difficult to work with because of their 'egos'. "A lot of people in the entertainment business, if you try to work with them or set up projects, a lot of times people just don't show up," Britney revealed. "A lot of people are divas in this industry. It's hard."

But there's one pop star who has impressed Britney – Justin Bieber. Speaking about the first time she met Justin, the Toxic singer said: "He walked into my hotel room and he was like a kid. Literally, he looked like he was 13 years old, but he was 16.

"I was like, 'Who's this kid in my hotel?', and my sister was like, 'This is Justin Bieber and his mother', and I was like, 'Oh my god, I cannot believe this.'"

She concluded: "He's very unassuming. He's a very, very nice, kind boy."
