Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander are the proud parents of two sons, but the couple have kept details of the pair out of the spotlight, with Alicia even hiding her second pregnancy until after giving birth.
As part of this privacy, the pair have even kept their children's names out of the public sphere, but on Friday, Michael revealed that his eldest son was named Frey. During an appearance on The One Show, the Black Bag star was joined by the stars of Toy Story 5, Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and Joan Cusack.
During the chat, they discussed how technology was having an impact on the lives of children, with Michael revealing that his family were no different.
"Frey's like five, and he's already been asking about a phone," which prompted gasps from the hosts and Michael's fellow guests. He continued: "It makes me more aware of how much I've been using it, to be honest, and I definitely need to be more disciplined with that."
Frey, which can be spelt in many different ways, including as Frei, Fray, Frej or Freyr, is a name that draws its roots from Norse and Germanic languages, which makes sense given Alicia and Michael's respective ancestry.
The name itself means 'Lord', but it can also be linked to the Norse god Freyr, who is associated with fertility, kingship, peace, prosperity, good weather and good harvests.
Michael and Alicia's family
Michael and Alicia first met back in 2014 when they were filming The Light Between Oceans, with the couple marrying three years later in a gorgeous Ibiza ceremony.
The couple decided to start a family during the coronavirus lockdowns, but sadly they experienced a miscarriage. Speaking to The Times the following year, Alicia said: "We have a child now, but it took us time. [The miscarriage] was so extreme, painful to go through and, of course, it made me recall making that film [The Light Between Oceans]. That film has another meaning now."
The couple welcomed Frey in 2021, and in 2024, Alicia revealed that the pair had welcomed a second son after hiding her pregnancy for the full nine months. In an interview with Elle alongside her Firebrand co-star, Taylor Russell, Taylor noted that Alicia had "literally just had [her] second baby".
Alicia explained in the interview that, "All women have such different experiences, and going through it a second time was definitely harder for me."
"But I think training made it easier. Going through those nine months is like a marathon, so it does help if you're strong going into it. It's so physically demanding, and I have so much admiration for any woman who has done it."
