Zoe Ball is returning to the airwaves as the latest addition to the presenting line-up at Greatest Hits Radio. The 55-year-old will host the station's new programme, Zoe Ball In The Afternoon, on weekdays from 1pm to 4pm.
The new role serves as a notable milestone in Zoe's career, as it marks her first weekday radio slot since her departure from the Radio 2 Breakfast show in 2024.
It comes just weeks after Zoe candidly discussed her feelings of "grief and rejection" after missing out on the hosting job for the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing.
Zoe, who previously hosted the Strictly spin-off series It Takes Two, had been widely speculated to be a frontrunner to replace Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman following their surprise departures last year. However, it was confirmed in May that the new hosting trio would consist of presenter Emma Willis, comedian Josh Widdicombe and professional dancer Johannes Radebe.
What has Zoe said about her new radio show?
Addressing her return to radio, Zoe expressed her enthusiasm in a statement: "There's something truly special about radio – the relationship you build with listeners, the energy, the music and the moments of joy and laughter you share together.
"I've missed it and this felt like the right time to begin a new chapter with Greatest Hits Radio."
Explaining why she was drawn to the station, Zoe continued: "As a station, Greatest Hits Radio has built something really brilliant – epic music, big personalities and a genuine connection with listeners. I’m excited to be joining the team and getting started."
Zoe's new daily show promises big guests, listener chats and special features, including Something for the Weekend every Friday. Alongside her new weekday show, Zoe will continue to co-host the Dig It podcast with Jo Whiley.
Gary Stein, Director of Audio for Bauer Media Audio UK, praised Zoe as "one of the UK's most talented and best-loved broadcasters," adding: "She has an extraordinary ability to connect with audiences, a real passion for great music and we’re delighted she’s chosen to join Greatest Hits Radio."
Zoe's BBC Radio 2 exit
In December last year, Zoe confirmed that she would be stepping down from her BBC Radio 2 role after seven years in the job.
The broadcaster, who was the first woman to present the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show solo, had initially left her breakfast show in December 2024. She returned to the station four and a half months later for a new afternoon slot.
Zoe Ball In The Afternoon will air weekdays at 1 pm to 4 pm on Greatest Hits Radio from Monday 7 September.
