Former New England Patriots player Jordan Devey has died at the age of 38 by suicide.
The NFL star's wife Linsey shared the devastating news on social media, revealing that Jordan died on July 21, 2026, only days before they were due to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary.
Jordan played for five NFL teams over eight years; he was undrafted in 2013 and signed with the Baltimore Ravens before being released.
© Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesHe landed in Boston with the Patriots that same year, helping the team to win a Super Bowl ring in 2014. In 2015, he was traded to the San Francisco 49rs, and played for the Kansas City Chiefs, alongside Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, between 2016 and 2018.
He also played for the Las Vegas Raiders and Buffalo Bills.

"We have filled the walls of our homes and hearts with countless memories, joys, struggles, and triumphs. We brought 4 beautiful children into this world that have your eyes, freckles, and compassion. You were our hero and our hearts ache in your absence. We love you. We miss you. And as you said in your last words to me, ‘We’ll talk soon.'"
Jordan was dad to son Cash, and three daughters, Maddyn, Winnie, and Stevie.
© Jordan DeveyThe football player's mother, Leslie, told Fox 13 in Salt Lake City that the family believed Jordan was suffering from Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). The autopsy will not be able to test for the neurodegenerative disease because of the way Jordan died.
Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) is a progressive brain disease caused by repeated head impacts. Symptoms include memory loss and mood changes, but it can only be diagnosed post-mortem.
It is most common in contact sports players and military veterans.

"As they face overwhelming emotional and financial challenges, including mounting medical expenses, the community is coming together to support Linsey and their children. The funds raised will help ease the financial burden, allowing them to focus on healing and moving forward without the added stress of immediate expenses."
Jordan stopped playing football in 2021.
In the years after, he and his family had settled in Eagle, Idaho, and he was a volunteer coach for his children's teams, as well coaching and mentoring athletes at the Eagle High School.
