NEW YORK FASHION WEEK GETS OFF TO A STELLAR START

New York Fashion Week began on a spectacular note on Tuesday, with glamour-packed shows by Badgley Mischka and Diane von Furstenberg.

Socialite Ivana Trump, Sex And The City’s Kristen Davis, and actress Anne Heche were all front row and centre at the Badgley Mischka collection, which the design duo says is based on the desire to “dream again, to wear special, beautiful things that indulge our fantasies”.

The sparkling pieces certainly followed the dreamy inspiration, with soft, feminine lines in silk, satin, lace and floaty chiffons. The collection, mostly in subtle spring shades of cream, pale grey and powder blues and pinks, included a number of beaded and embroidered evening gowns featuring the elegant slim silhouette for which Badgley Mischka is famous.

London Fashion Week has come to an end, but a taste of the UK lingered in the Diane von Furstenberg show as British models Erin O’Connor, Liberty Ross and Sophie Dahl prowled the catwalk in the Belgian-born designer’s sexy “Once Upon A Time” collection. Many pieces had a Forties and Fifties feel, with her trademark wrap dresses, hip-length suit jackets with squared shoulders and tight capri pants, most in earth tones, black or white.

New York Fashion Week ends on September 22.
