STELLA CONSIDERING LAUNCH OF JEWELLERY LINE

First Mick Jagger’s daughter Jade made a name for herself as a jewellery designer, and now it looks like one of Paul McCartney’s brood will be creating her own line of baubles. Fashion designer Stella McCartney, already hard at work on her own clothing label for Gucci, is said to be venturing into the field.

Stella, who just launched her own store in New York, has apparently applied to trademark her name on a whole range of goods from perfumes to umbrellas. And, says a spokesperson, “A jewellery collection is a project that has been spoken about”.

If her star-studded store opening in the Big Apple this week is any indication, celebrities will be lining up to buy the latest Stella accessories. But the designer has made it clear that her new shop, in NY’s famous meat packing district, isn’t just an exclusive haunt for the famous. “I didn’t want that to happen here,” she says. “I want this place to be welcoming and calming, and not too intense and all, ‘We’re so cool’.”

With her eponymous label, a new boutique and a line of accessories on the horizon, one might wonder if the busy designer will have time for her rumoured December wedding to former Wallpaper publisher Alasdhair Willis. Though Stella, who reportedly sports an engagement ring, has firmly denied any talk of tying the knot, she has revealed one aspect of any future nuptials. When asked on US TV if she would design her own dress, Stella briefly demurred, before admitting: “Of course I would.”
