Elle Macpherson's victory at a glitzy awards ceremony came as no great surprise to those who have followed her career. Indeed, fans of the Australian supermodel might argue that the style icon trophy she received on Monday night had her name on it all along.

The 42-year-old beauty was honoured by Elle magazine when she attended their annual prizegiving gala in the British capital. And the mum-of-two, who was dressed in a figure-hugging black dress, made it easy to see why she was once known as "the body" in modelling circles.

She wasn't the only blonde bombshell turning heads in London's Brick Lane, as South African star Charlize Theron was on hand to pick up the woman of the year award. Local girl Rachel Weisz, who is six months' pregnant with her first child, was likewise basking in glory after winning the gong for most stylish actress.

The OC's leading lady Mischa Barton had her hands full after collecting two trophies. The 20-year-old actress, who spends most of her time in the US these days, returned to London to accept the prizes for best female television star and, on behalf of her hit show, best television series.

Among the other famous faces mingling in the Atlantis Gallery were Oscar nominee Thandie Newton, rock chick Kelly Osbourne and pop starlet Dannii Minogue. Catwalk queen Erin O'Connor, who won the modelling category, was there too, along with singer Myleene Klass and designer Sadie Frost.
