Icebergs, underwater kingdoms and aeroplanes – Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld never fails to impress the fashion world with his grand productions and breathtaking sets. His Autumn/Winter 2013 show at Paris Fashion Week was no exception, with his army of models – that included It girl Cara Delevingne – marching around an enormous, 50ft high spinning globe while showcasing his new confections.

The planet replica was adorned with lights denoting cities and red, double CC flags for the 300 Chanel boutiques around the world. Chanel always pulls a starry crowd, and Tuesday's show saw Jessica Chastain, Vanessa Paradis, Alice Dellal, Anna Wintour and Milla Jovovich all turn out to support the French fashion house. Vanessa, who is one of Karl's long time muses, was a fan of the backdrop. "It's impressive," said the French singer, who is finishing her next album Love Songs.

"It looks wonderful," added Oscar nominee Jessica. When asked whether her hometown had been specified with a light on the globe, she replied: "Can't tell at the moment. I'm from Northern California, wine country." As for the collection, Karl had fittingly named it "Globalization". Bouclé, the textured, tweed-like fabric Chanel is known for, was prevalent. It featured in the signature Chanel silhouette – tailored jackets and skirt suits. While the focus was on the brand's trademarks, there was a modern twist that came through with bigger sleeves and roomy necklines.

Maxi skirts also made their way down the runway, worn with either over-the-knee or biker boots adorned with chains. Accessories included globe clutch bags and furry aviators caps.
