Amal Clooney may not give too much thought to her fashion while she's working on a case – the human rights barrister famously explained she was wearing Ede & Ravenscroft on her way into court in Strasbourg in 2015 – but she has developed a strong eye for style when she's off-duty.
One year after marrying Hollywood actor George Clooney, Amal was pictured enjoying a day out with her father Ramzi Alamuddin in the East Village.
Clutching onto her father's hand, she wore an ethereal white mini dress with a sheer lace overlay and a drop waist – a style that wouldn't look out of place in the storefronts in the summer of 2026.
Dressing for the cooler May weather, she completed her look by layering a tan suede jacket over her shoulders and slipping white heeled sandals on her feet. As the UK endures its fifth heatwave of 2026, she certainly won't need extra layers should she choose to re-wear the dress.
Amal Clooney's wedding dress style
One year earlier, Amal had planned one of the most star-studded weddings that stretched over four days of celebrations in Venice, Italy. The bride, who met the Jay Kelly actor through a mutual friend at a dinner party at George's house, wore a breathtaking custom ivory French lace Oscar de la Renta bridal gown.
Speaking to Vogue about her wedding, she said: "George and I wanted a wedding that was romantic and elegant, and I can't imagine anyone more able than Oscar to capture this mood in a dress."
Amal's guide to nailing a mini dress in your 40s
Never shy to experiment with shorter hems, Amal serves a masterclass in how to wear mini dresses in your 40s.
Earlier this year, the 48-year-old enjoyed a glamorous date night with her husband, George Clooney, at the 51st Chaplin Award Gala in New York City.
Amal made a statement in a block-colour mini dress with an off-the-shoulder neckline from Balenciaga. Stylist Leanne Jones, who trained at the London College of Style, explained to HELLO! how Amal seamlessly switched up her style.
"This is a departure from her usual full-length gown aesthetic; it really works for her - and it’s a great reminder that there is absolutely no harm in switching up your style at any age or stage of life. From a styling perspective, the colour is absolutely on point as a feature colour for SS26 direction," Leanne said at the time.
For those looking to emulate her style, she offered her top tips for styling an uber-short mini dress in your 40s:
- The key is choosing the right shape for you. Amal’s dress is fitted at the skirt, but if that feels too restrictive, an A-line or softer puffball silhouette can offer more movement while still highlighting the legs.
- Prints and textures can also help soften cling and draw the eye in a different way.
- Heels play an important role in elongating the leg and balancing proportions.amal
